Understanding the NMC Regulations
The National Medical Commission (NMC) regulates medical education and licensing in India. Minimum Course Duration

The entire MBBS course, including clinical training, must be taught exclusively in English (bilingual courses are not valid).
NEET Qualification

Licensing in Host Country
The university degree must legally register and entitle the student to practice medicine in the country where it is awarded.
University Recognition
Must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) under WHO and recognized by the foreign country's ministry.
Licensing Process in India (NExT)
FMGs must qualify for the upcoming **National Exit Test (NExT)** to get registered and practice medicine in India. The NExT exam is a single-window process divided into:
- •**NExT Step 1**: Theoretical computer-based exam covering clinical and allied subjects. Must be qualified after returning to India.
- •**Compulsory Internship**: Undergo a 12-month Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI) in India.
- •**NExT Step 2**: Practical, clinical, and viva-voce exam focusing on clinical decision-making. Passing leads to the permanent licensing.
